Experience whale watching in San Diego from the yacht America. Next Level Sailing has never made it so easy for you to go whale watching in San Diego off our beautiful coastline. So do it right on board our beautiful 138 foot sailing yacht America. Come enjoy San Diego whale watching tours with us!

Last year we had a 100% success rate for watching whales. This marks the first time in San Diego history that any vessel from any operator had a perfect season. One reason is that we only have one trip a day and that gives more time to ensure we are making no compromises in delivery the finest experience every day.

We are the greenest operator in San Diego. We go sails up on every trip. We typically motor-sail as we leave the San Diego Bay and then just sail on our return. As such, we consumed less than 1,000 gallons of fuel all of last season. By comparison, one vessel in San Diego’s whale-watching fleet consumes over 100 gallons an hour! Our auxiliary engines are the latest generation EPA Tier-3 John Deere 6068AFM85 with the highest tier rating available.

No Sea Sickness Guarantee

We want you to get out there which is why we offer the world’s only no sickness guarantee. If you lose your lunch we’ll replace it with a $25 gift certificate. Last year only 1 out of every 400 guests felt motion sickness. We can make this offer because America is a very stable yacht. So get out there! So come early or stay after the trip and enjoy the exhibits and ship including the Star of India.

Check-In Location

Check-in is located at **2050 Shelter Island Drive, San Diego CA 92106.** You will notice there is no building at this address as we check-in on a grassy area adjacent to the parking lot. Once you are on Shelter Island Drive, you will reach a roundabout intersection, turn right (southwest) and continue on Shelter Island Drive. As soon as you pass Silver Gate Yacht Club, look LEFT for **the bright blue flag on the corner that says “Whale Watching”** and turn LEFT into the parking lot. Then look RIGHT for the **“Check-In” flag on the grass which is where you will get your boarding pass.** Please park anywhere in this fabulous FREE all-day parking lot. If you are using public transportation, Lyft, or Uber, please check-in at this location as well.

Boarding

Once everyone has their boarding passes, a crew member will escort you to the Yacht America. You will be walking on a wooden dock, so please make sure to wear comfortable close-toed shoes. High-heels and stilettos will get stuck between the wooden planks.

We depart on time.** Please check with the crew member at the blue “Check-In” flag no later than 30 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time. Check-in will begin an hour prior to your scheduled departure time. If you are late, the Yacht America will sail off to sea and you will not receive a refund for your absence. Be sure to check your ticket details to confirm the check in period.

Parking

FREE All-Day Parking** is located in the parking lots surrounding 2050 Shelter Island Drive. There is free parking on the street as well.

Restrooms

Restroom facilities are available on Yacht America during the trip. If you need to use the restroom prior to check-in, there is a public restroom facility next to the Shelter Island Boat Launch Ramp at 2210 Shelter Island Drive.

Tips & Guidelines

Clothing

We recommend dressing warmly and in layers, as the air is always cooler on the water and conditions can change hour to hour. You can always shed layers as necessary. We do provide blankets for guests that may become cold. Comfortable shoes and windbreakers are a good idea. Watch the forecast and bring a rain jacket if necessary.

Food & Beverages

Water, soda, chips, and granola bars are included during your trip. Beer and white wine will be available for purchase during the trip. Feel free to bring your own lunch & drinks (including alcohol). If you have any glass bottles, please bring plastic cups. Red wine is not allowed as it stains the deck.

Tips

Our crew works very hard to ensure your trip is a great experience. If you’d like to share a gratuity, please catch any of the crew as you depart.

Salty Boutique

If you would like to purchase a shirt, hat, beanie, or hoodie during the trip, just ask a crew member and they would be happy to assist. We don't have cell service in the ocean, so it is cash only. The cost for these items is between $20-$55 depending on the item and preferred size. There is an ATM in the hotel if you don't have cash with you.
