Duration

4.5 Hours

About

  • We begin your tour by meeting at our authentic Alaskan log cabin to get outfitted in top of the line winter gear (coat, pants, boots and helmet).
  • After receiving riding instructions, you’ll travel via your brand new ski-doo snowmobile through the majestic wilderness on private, groomed, trails to the Battle Dawg’s* kennels.
  • Once arrived, you’ll be able to warm up with complimentary hot beverages in a 40’ yurt with stunning views of Denali.
  • After you’ve warmed up, you’ll get to meet the dog team of the ten-time Iditarod musher, Rick Casillo. Visit with the dogs (AND PUPPIES!!), learn about mushing and don’t forget PICTURES!
  • Learn all about what it's like to train and race with these amazing athletic Alaskan Huskies and then take a turn mushing your very own team.
  • Your adventure will continue as we make our way back to our starting point through the woods and over the river.

Battle Dawgs is a non-profit that provides outdoor rehabilitation camps for combat veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress, brain injury or any other combat-related injury. Funds from this tour go directly to Battle Dawgs to continue providing therapeutic camps for our Nation’s heroes.

Before you go

Where to Meet

  • Your tour will begin at our iconic Alaskan log cabin, 38867 Commercial Dr., Talkeetna AK. right outside of the quaint little town of Talkeetna. Located about 90 miles north of Anchorage, you'll drive north on the Glenn Highway until you turn right onto the Talkeetna Spur Highway, proceed about 1/2 mile and then turn right on Commercial Drive. You'll pass two commercial buildings and then take another right onto Main (not on Google Maps)and proceed to our log cabin. Winter driving can be slow so please give yourself an extra 30-60 minutes so you don't delay/miss your tour. (Please read our strict late policy!)

What to Bring

  • Please bring warm winter clothes, a knit hat and if possible your own gloves and balaclava. It is always best to dress in layers as the weather can change very quickly and unpredictably. Synthetics and wool are your best option. Cotton should be avoided, as it will not keep you warm if it gets wet. We provide helmets for riding but you'll want to be sure you bring a hat to wear when we are stopped for the dog portion of the tour. Sunglasses and chapstick are handy to have on sunny days. If you require corrective eyewear it's usually best to wear contacts as glasses tend to fog up under goggles.

What to Expect

  • Your tour will begin with gearing up in top of the line snowmobile cloths and signing liability forms. Then you'll proceed outside with your guide to go over riding safety and instructions. It is imperative that you follow all the guides’ instructions, as there can be hazards on or around the trail (examples: open water, rocks or fallen trees under the snow, steep banks) that could cause you or another rider harm or damage. If you damage a machine you are financially responsible for all repairs and possible lost income.
  • You should leave all jewelry such as earrings at home as they tend to snag or get lost while wearing the helmet.
  • You are welcomed and encouraged to bring cameras. If it is a larger camera that will not fit into a pocket you’ll need to bring a small backpack to carry it. Remember, cold temperature will drain batteries.
  • Please remember that you will be traveling into the wilderness where there are no maintained bathroom facilities.

Change Policy

You may reschedule your tour at anytime within 7 days of booking at no charge (unless you have booked within 10 days of the tour date). A $50 per person rebooking fee will apply if a tour is changed within 10 days of the tour date.

Late Policy

-The tours run on a tight schedule in order to optimize your time on the trail and/or at the dog kennel. In respect of your fellow participants we have a strict late policy. If you arrive more than 10 minutes past your tour time you will miss your tour. There are no refunds for missed tours but you may be able to reschedule for a $50 per person rescheduling fee if there is availability.
