Glacier View Wildlife Adventure Tour: Alaska’s Best Day Trip from Anchorage

Duration

7-7.5 Hours

About

Small Group | Guided Tour | 2025 Viator Experience Award-Winner – Top 1% Globally

If you only have one day in Anchorage, this is the tour.

Our Glacier View Tour is more than a sightseeing trip — it’s an immersive journey through the very best of Alaska’s landscapes, wildlife, and local charm.

From hanging glaciers to unforgettable wildlife encounters, this award-winning adventure has earned its spot as one of the top-rated experiences, and it starts just minutes from downtown Anchorage.

What You’ll Experience:

Your day begins in Historic Downtown Anchorage, where your local guide introduces you to the city’s unique history — shaped by railroads, earthquakes, and aviation. You’ll stop at the Ulu Factory for a behind-the-scenes look at traditional Alaskan craftsmanship and stroll along Ship Creek, where salmon often surge upstream right in the heart of town.

From there, it’s on to Earthquake Park, where you’ll see how nature reshaped the land in 1964, and Lake Hood, the world’s busiest floatplane base — a true Alaskan scene in motion.

Next, you’ll follow the dramatic coastline of Turnagain Arm to Beluga Point, where panoramic views and possible sightings of Dall sheep, mountain goats, and even beluga whales (Seasonal) will take your breath away.

The journey continues with a visit to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center — a haven for rescued animals and a guaranteed opportunity to see bears, moose, musk oxen, bison, and more in a natural setting. This stop is often a guest favorite.

Then it’s time to enjoy the hanging glaciers of Portage Valley and experience an optional walk through glacier-carved wilderness on the Byron Glacier Trail — an easy, guided 20-25 minute path along a river of glacial melt, ending with a stunning view of the glacier itself. (Seasonal: May–October.) In winter, enjoy views of hanging glaciers and a drive through the impressive Whittier Tunnel.

We’ll wrap up with a stop in the charming mountain town of Girdwood, where you can grab lunch at a beloved local café before heading back to Anchorage — full of stories, fresh air, and unforgettable memories.
