Brooklyn’s Gilded Age comes to life on this unique walking tour

(Best suited for adults and teenagers that have a strong interest in the Gilded Age, architecture and design.)

Duration

2 hours, about 1.5 miles

Overview

Toward the end of the 19th century, the heart of central Brooklyn was transforming from farmland to a Gilded Age suburb designed for high-class professionals. Today, Flatbush still contains one of the largest collections of Victorian houses in the United States. Take a tour that shows you a Brooklyn neighborhood that broke the brownstone mold!

We will explore the urban changes that led to these changes, the developers who brought the Victorian mindset and style to Brooklyn, and how the area has evolved over the last 130+ years.

And you will see some of the prettiest homes in Brooklyn!

Tour Highlights:

  • A massive historic district of Victorian-era homes
  • A visit inside a historic 19-century tennis club
  • See the famous Japanese house of Flatbush
  • Arrive at one of the prettiest subway stops in Brooklyn!
  • Hear the details of the massive mansion recently on the market for $13 million

Please Note

This tour lets you see several Victorian houses up close but does not go into any homes. We will send the exact meeting place when you sign up.
