See Detroit as it should be

See The Detroit as it should be seen, up close and personal! There’s no better way to do this than on foot. Our See The D Walking Tour takes you through the heart of Downtown Detroit where you’ll soak up the sights, sounds, and scents of this fascinating place. From gorgeous riverfront views to an urban beach, architectural masterpieces, and funky art, you’ll get to experience it all.

Along the way, we’ll step inside a few of the city's architectural crown jewels and make photo stops in front of our legendary landmarks all while regaling you with tales of Detroit’s fascinating history and hip new developments.

MINIMUM of 3 PARTICIPANTS needed for tour to run. Please check your email 24 hours prior to tour start to make sure tour is on. If you'd like to insure tour is a go, feel free to purchase 3 tickets.

This is a walking tour with the emphasis on walking. (Approximately 2.5 miles at a fairly leisurely pace with lots of stops). Dress appropriately for the weather AND wear comfy, walking shoes. Tours run rain or shine.

(If these times don't work, please inquire about a private tour)

Tour runs light rain or shine so please make sure you're dressed for the weather. Extreme weather conditions will result in tour cancellation so again, please check your email or call us to make sure tour is a go.

Tips & Guidelines

  • Gratuities to your tour guide(s) are greatly appreciated if you enjoy your time on the tour. As a quick tip - the standard gratuity in the local service industry is 15-20%.
  • Participants are urged to bring extra cash for use towards return fare and/or souvenirs and gifts for after the tour.

What to Wear

  • Participants will be on their feet and outdoors for most of the walking tour, so please wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes.
  • Flip-flops, high heels, and dress-shoes are not recommended.
  • Umbrellas on rainy days, warm layers on cold days, and cool clothing on hot days will make your experience much more enjoyable.

What to Bring/What Not to Bring

  • Participants are urged to bring cameras, smart phones and even Polaroids if you have them! There are some awesome photo opportunities during the tour and we recommend you capture these memorable moments anyway possible.
  • Participants are urged to bring sun glasses, sun screen, and/or a hat during the summer months.
  • We love pets too (and would love to meet yours), but because the tour visits a number of food establishments, you'll need to leave your pets at home/hotel.

Where to Park

The Guardian Building is located in the Financial District. If you're staying downtown or parking at a distant lot, you can ride the Detroit People Mover (75 cents per ride) to the Financial District station. Look for the orange brick building across the street.

There are numerous parking structures and surface lots within a couple blocks of the Guardian Building. Buhl Garage is right across the street but can be pricey during the week.  Sites such as www.parkwhiz.com can inform you of daily pricing and help you locate nearby parking. (Use 500 Griswold, Detroit MI 48226 for best results)

There are also opportunities to park on the street but note street parking is metered and usually only allows you to sign up for 2 hours. When time expires you can add another 2 hour session via your smartphone. To learn more about this option, go to parkdetroit.us
