There are several islands off of the Port and worth exploring! You will leave the hustle and bustle of Market Square and head to the waterfront. You will pedal through the charming islands, gardens, and lush parks, and over to New Castle Island where the vast Atlantic Ocean greets you. Your guide will stop to share fascinating stories of fishing, shipbuilding and fortifications. On this flagship bike tour, you will see the "best of Portsmouth and New Castle Island" with a one-on-one small group bike tour experience.

What To Expect:

At your selected departure time, meet your local guide and get fitted for a 21-speed hybrid comfort bike at the John Paul Jones Historic House, and embark on a bike tour of Portsmouth and New Castle landmarks, monuments, and memorials.

Expert guide, high-end 21-speed city bike, and safety equipment (helmet & vest).

Upgrade to an electric assist (ebike) $50 for guided tours. Must be over 18.

Thank you again for choosing PortCity Bike Tours. We're located at the Historic John Paul Jones House located at 43 Middle Street (Corner of State and Middle Street) in the carriage house. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to your tour start time. We will need time to review the rules of the road and bike safety and go over bicycle operation. Thank you for your cooperation. Please ensure that all waivers are electronically signed before our tour.

What to Wear

Wear weather-appropriate athletic clothing. Shorts, t-shirt and a windbreaker will work great for most days. For cooler weather, add a sweatshirt and long pants. We ask that you wear closed-toe athletic shoes (sneakers). Sunglasses and sunscreen are also advised.

What to Bring/What Not to Bring

Please do not bring any glass bottles or wear sandals.

You’re welcome to bring water, snacks or beverages you like. Gratuities for the tour guides are not included and will show the guide they did a great job. We will include a 20% gratuity for parties of six or more guests that book.

Other Tips & Guidelines

Please arrive 30 minutes early* so you can be fitted for a bike and helmet.

Weather - We will go in light rain, but not in severe or unsafe conditions.

Please make sure the cellphone number you listed while booking is with you, and on, prior to your tour.

Detailed Directions

Please meet us at the John Paul Jones Carriage House located at the 43 Middle Street. The best address to use in a GPS is the John PAUL Jones House rather than 43 Middle Street, Portsmouth, NH 03801. You will see two large "PortCity Bike Tours" signs so come into the garden. There are a number of paid and free parking lots within a few minute's walks from the meeting location. If lost or running late, please call (603) 969-1866.

Parking:** There is 3-hour parking right nearby, 4-hour parking at the Bridge Street lot. The Hanover lot has parking available for an unlimited amount of time. There is additional free parking at the Mason Temple Lot on Miller Avenue and Middle Street.
