City of Portsmouth Bike Tour - Explore City Landmarks

This is our city tour and a great way to explore the neighborhoods and districts of Portsmouth. You will hear stories and see the transformation of a 1600s fishing and shipbuilding port, to a cultural hub of the North East. You will get a glimpse into what makes Portsmouth so charming and unique. You will pedal by the 1700-1900 century preserved architecture as you make your way along the harbor and back channel.

Meet your guide 30 minutes prior to your departure time to get fitted with your bike.  You’ll hear a short briefing about the rules of the road, bike safety, and bike operation. Children and families are most welcome!

-$55 Youth 20 and 24-inch bicycle (We request that the youth be able to ride for two hours, take directions from a guide and ride in a straight line.)

Tour Includes:

-Expert guide, high-end 21-speed city bike, and safety equipment (helmet & vest).​

-Upgrade to an electric assist (ebike) $50 for guided tours. Must be over 18.

Please arrive 30 minutes prior to your tour start time. We will need time to review the rules of the road and bike safety and go over bicycle operation. Thank you for your cooperation. What to Wear

Wear weather-appropriate athletic clothing. Shorts, t-shirt and a windbreaker will work great for most days. For cooler weather, add a sweatshirt and long pants. We ask that you wear closed-toe athletic shoes (sneakers). Sunglasses and sunscreen are also advised.

What to Bring/What Not to Bring

Please do not bring any glass bottles or wear sandals.

You’re welcome to bring water any other snacks or beverages you like. Gratuities for the tour guides are not included and will show the guide they did a great job. You are also welcome to bring a camera or a smartphone.

Other Tips & Guidelines

Please arrive 30 minutes early* so you can be fitted for a bike and helmet.

Weather - We will go in light rain, but not in severe or unsafe conditions.

Please make sure the cellphone number you listed while booking is with you, and on, prior to your tour.

Important:** Any directions or maps provided by PortCityBike Tours are only a rough guide. You are responsible for arriving at the activity's meeting location on time, so make sure to check with a second source that can provide specific directions from your starting point.

Detailed Directions

Please meet us at the John Paul Jones Carriage House located at the corner of State Street and Middle Street. Walk into the garden. The best address to use in a GPS is the John PAUL Jones House rather than 43 Middle Street, Portsmouth, NH 03801. You will see two large "PortCity Bike Tours" signs so come into the garden. There are a number of paid and free parking lots within a few minute's walks from the meeting location. If lost or running late, please call (603) 969-1866.

Parking:** There is 3-hour parking right nearby, 4-hour parking at the Bridge Street lot. The Hanover lot has parking available for an unlimited amount of time. There is additional free parking at the Mason Temple Lot on Miller Avenue and Middle Street.
