About

Rated as one of the top ten whitewater rafting trips in the U.S., the Hudson River Gorge is the pinnacle of New York whitewater rafting. 17 miles of whitewater combined with spectacular scenery will provide you with memories to last a lifetime. This is a full-day trip that has it all – big rapids, swimming, rock jumping, excellent food, and reliable dam-released water. This action-packed whitewater rafting trip is a 3-4 hour drive from NYC.

What's Included

ALL the gear you need and lunch to boot! Beaver Brook is committed to being transparent with our costs. We will never charge you extra for meals or gear.

  • New York State licensed guide
  • Self-bailing raft
  • ALL gear (pfd, helmet, booties, wetsuit, splash top, paddles)
  • Trip to & from the river
  • Packed lunch on the river
  • Refreshments after the trip

Private Boat vs. Per Person

Parties of 2-5** can opt for per person pricing or choose a private boat. Choose the per person option if you're comfortable mixing with other parties, or choose the private boat option to book a raft that is only your group and a guide.

Parties of 6+** automatically have private boats, just use the per person pricing and we will take care of it! Rafts fit up to 8 people, groups larger than 8 will be split between multiple boats.

Water Levels & Age Restrictions

Summer levels are Class III-IV and appropriate for ages 8+. Spring levels can get as high as Class IV-V, spring age restrictions vary depending on water level but are generally 14+ in the spring. You can always call us to see if this trip is a good fit for your crew.

Before you go

Thanks for booking a trip with Beaver Brook! Here are some important things to know about your rafting trip

Use the address in your confirmation and enter it into your GPS at the start of your trip. We are in the mountains and cell service is very spotty. We also don't recommend using Waze to find us, it has been an issue for people in the past. You can ALWAYS call us ahead of time if you’re unsure of where you’re going. Thanks!

Meeting Time

Our trips meet at 9:00 AM at our Hudson River Raft Base in North Creek. This is a firm time. We rely on a dam release to get us down the Indian River, which is our only access to the Hudson. The dam is only open for a short time in the morning. If we miss this release we can't go on our trip. We will not refund those who miss their trip due to being late. Feel free to give us a call to find out the travel time to the base from your accommodations.

What to Wear

  • **APRIL & EARLY MAY** - No cotton! We require all participants to wear long underwear, a wool sweater or fleece top, and a hat. Dress like you're going skiing-- fleece, polypro, wool or other synthetic blends are great. Wear more than you think you'll need and don't hesitate to bring extra layers, the water is still very cold even with a wetsuit. More is more!
  • **LATE MAY & JUNE** - The water is warmer and we wear wetsuits depending on the air temperature. Check the weather prior to your trip, if it's going to be below 65 degrees dress for early spring, if it's going to be in the 70's or higher dress for summer but bring an extra layer or two just in case.
  • **JULY & AUGUST** - In the summer, shorts and a T-shirt or bathing suits are fine. We recommend that ladies wear shorts over top of their swim bottoms, the raft material isn't very comfortable on your bare skin. While we all love a good pair of jorts, quick-dry or synthetic shorts perform better when wet. A rain-shell or fleece top isn’t a bad idea depending on the forecast.
  • **SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER** - The water is chillier and we will likely wear wetsuits, dress as if you would for spring rafting.
  • **FOOTWEAR** - Your footwear should be securely on your feet. Old sneakers, water shoes, or sandals with back straps are great. Please don't wear flips flops or crocs (even with the adventure strap engaged), many pairs have been lost over the years. We have wetsuit booties available to borrow (no extra cost) if you need them. We require guests wear our booties in the spring and fall.

Other Items to Bring

  • Dry clothes for after the trip
  • Sunscreen
  • Medication (we will keep it dry)
  • Water bottle
  • Baseball cap or visor if you want to wear it under your helmet
  • Cash if you'd like to tip your guide

Is it OK to Bring....?

  • **A Go-Pro?** Sure! However, keep it securely attached. We have probably 1-2 people a year lose one. We have helmets with mounts, ask for one when you get suited up.
  • **Alcohol?** We do not allow alcohol or cannabis on our trips and are strict about enforcing this. Our insurance company dictates these terms and there's no wiggle room. We don't allow anyone under the influence on any of our trips and will not refund groups that don't follow our rules. That said! We love having a beer after the trip and we're happy to keep it cold for you so you can enjoy it at our base when we're finished.
  • **A dry bag?** Yup! As long as it's not huge.
  • **My own food?** Sure, just let us know and we will repack it into our coolers to ensure it stays dry.
  • **Extra layers?** Absolutely, bring them with you on the bus and your guide will put everything in their dry bag.
  • **My phone?** Unless you have a totally waterproof case that attaches to your person, we really don't recommend it.

Food Accommodations

We make every effort to accommodate any dietary needs that you may have (allergies, religious restrictions, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, lactose intolerant, etc.) Please give us a call or email with any dietary restrictions or allergies so we can make the right food for you! If we know ahead of time we can make arrangements for dietary restrictions but we cannot guarantee dietary accommodations if we are not informed prior to your trip.

Gratuities

While our guides never expect a tip, they always appreciate them. We ask that all tips be given in cash, we are not able to put tips on credit cards. Some guides have Venmo accounts, but not everyone does. Visit our [FAQ] (https://www.beaverbrook.net/about-us/faq/) page for more info on this.
