A Private Night Under The Northern Lights!
Duration
8-9 Hours
About
Ever thought about having the night all to yourselves while enjoying the aurora? Now you can! This option is just for you and your group traveling together for the night without anyone else joining the tour.
Let Face The Outdoors show you Alaska under the stars at the Aurora Viewing Lodge. We'll take you on a northern lights adventure in the heart of Alaska!
Sit back and relax in the comfort of the lodge as you watch the magical aurora borealis unfold before your eyes.
For this aurora tour, your group will travel to a remote/private location where you'll enjoy the night all to yourselves. Avoid the crowded uncomfortable vans, big group tours, overcrowded pullouts, and the cloudy skies. We chase the lights only when necessary, otherwise enjoy the comfort of the lodge and its amenities.
You'll be guided by a local Alaskan native who knows the area and where to go and has grown up experiencing this natural phenomenon.
Your local guide will teach you how to set up your personal camera equipment so that you go home with excellent northern lights photos of your own. You can choose to rent one of our cameras at the time of booking if you don't have your own.
You'll be picked up in our 15-passenger van where you'll enjoy the comfort and warmth while keeping an eye out for the aurora on the way.
You've invested a lot to make this dream come true. Now, book with a born and raised Alaskan familiar with the area and the aurora, and leave the rest to us on your special private night.
We have the best viewing away from city lights with the amenities of home to make your experience comfortable and enjoyable--even entertaining!
More Info
We've made sure the lodge is located in an area with dark skies and zero light pollution. This makes seeing even the faintest aurora possible with the naked eye.
Located less than 100 miles from Fairbanks, the Aurora Viewing Lodge sits under the aurora oval, a section of the earth's atmosphere where you can see the northern lights.
5 professional aurora portraits are included.
Need help with your camera settings? No problem. We have a professional photographer on board to help you with your settings. We want to make sure you get the best photos to capture your experience.
Please dress appropriately for times outside viewing and taking pictures.
Come see Alaska! The way it's meant to be seen. We promise you, those dancing colors in the sky are unlike anything you’ve ever seen.
Before you go
Before Your Tour
About 24 hours before your tour, you’ll get an automated reminder with your booking details. On the day of your tour, Michael will confirm your exact pickup time. Pickups run between 8 and 8:30 PM.
If the weather looks questionable or conditions change, Michael will email you a day or more ahead. He might let you know we’ll be chasing clearer skies, or check whether you can switch to a better night. If you don’t hear from him about weather, we’re on as planned.
What to Bring
Warm layers (hat, gloves, insulated jacket, winter pants, warm boots)
Camera and tripod if you have one
Headlamp (red light mode preferred — preserves night vision)
Extra hand/toe warmers
Water bottles and snacks for chase nights
Car seat if traveling with young children (we don’t provide these)
Visiting November–March? Alaska cold is no joke — especially for kids. Search “Fairbanks winter gear rental” to outfit your group properly. The warmer everyone is, the longer you’ll want to stay out under the aurora.
No camera? No problem — Michael provides photography guidance for any phone, plus 5–7 professional aurora portraits are included with your private tour.
What’s Included
Exclusive lodge use — just your group, no other guests
Round-trip hotel pickup in our heated van

Mobile aurora chasing if clouds roll in, up to 4 hours from Fairbanks — the only Fairbanks lodge tour that also chases

Clean bathroom facilities at the lodge
Michael’s full attention dedicated to your group all night
About Aurora Chasing
We chase when the skies call for it. On clear nights, your group enjoys the aurora from the comfort of your private lodge. On overcast nights, we relocate to find clear skies — the best of both worlds. Chase spots are remote, so the only restroom on the road is the outdoors and hot drinks and snacks may not come along, but since it’s just your group, we can stop when you need to. Bring water and snacks on those nights.
Please Note
Children of all ages are welcome on Private tours. Since it’s just your group, kids can warm up inside the lodge or the heated van whenever needed, and the pace adjusts to your family’s comfort level.
